Learning a language effectively is tough, however the value of a bilingual education cannot be overemphasized, hence the bilingual policy. MOE’s Mother Tongue Language Policy requires students to take a respective mother tongue language for Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE), Singapore-Cambridge GCE Ordinary Level (‘O’ Level) and Singapore-Cambridge GCE Advanced Level (‘A’ Level). Be it Chinese, Malay or Tamil, most Singaporeans have grown up being able to converse in at least 1 non-english language. However, it is also a fact that many students are unable to cope with handling 2 languages and struggle to keep up in school. Aside from students, many adults are also exploring the option of taking up a 2nd or 3rd language, or improving their language profiency for their jobs or interest.
