At One World International School, we’re committed to providing a world-class education in Singapore to students aged 3-18 years old.
We offer several curricula — International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP), International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) and International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB DP).
These internationally recognised curricula are taught by our highly experienced teachers, who represent various nationalities from across the globe.
Key benefits of enrolling your child at OWIS:
Welcoming Atmosphere and Supportive Culture
We create a warm, welcoming atmosphere that fosters a sense of belonging. Our students know they are accepted and valued as unique individuals, because teachers and staff model our core values — kindness, compassion and respect.
We also instill these traits through acts of service within the school, the local community and international organisations.
Personalised Learning Approach
Our innovative curricula give teachers the ability to incorporate students’ interests into the lessons, sparking children’s natural curiosity.
Encouraging students to pursue their passions inspires a lifelong love of learning. Building on their curiosity and interests, students are able to direct their own learning and become more independent and self-confident.
Small class sizes allow plenty of opportunities for students to interact with their teachers and collaborate with peers.
The maximum number of students in each of our early childhood classrooms is 18, while for primary and secondary students, it’s 24. More one-on-one interaction allows our educators to get to know each student and provide valuable feedback to enhance learning.
Multicultural Education
Our diverse group of students represents more than 70 different nationalities. We maintain this diversity with a nationality cap, ensuring that no more than 30 percent of students come from one particular nationality.
Our teachers come from many different countries around the world and many of them have lived outside their home countries.
They bring a variety of perspectives to the classroom and are able to relate to our students’ experiences. In this environment, students gain a more profound respect for their own cultures as well as the many others represented in our school community.
Balanced Approach to Learning
Our balanced approach supports all aspects of students’ development — intellectual, physical, social and emotional.
Our holistic framework includes not only “traditional” subjects, but also specialist classes. Physical education, visual and performing arts, and music are integral components of our curricula. We provide intensive instruction in Mandarin (as a second language) throughout primary and secondary school.
From Grade 8 onwards, students have the option of studying Spanish and French as second languages. We also have a Chinese-English bilingual programme for our primary school students from ages 6 to 11.
Co-Curricular Activities
To inspire students to explore their talents and passions outside the typical classroom, we offer a wide selection of co-curricular activities in sports, drama, crafts, music and more.
Co-curricular activities enable students to socialise with peers and connect with teachers in a more laid-back setting.
As they gain new skills, they often unlock potential they didn’t know they had. Usually conducted after school (pre-Covid), co-curricular activities are optional and available for a separate fee.
21st Century Skills
OWIS’ well-rounded educational approach imparts academic knowledge and instils essential 21st-century life skills, such as critical thinking, problem-solving, collaboration, communication and creativity in students.
Our classrooms are equipped with iPads, interactive whiteboards and other devices to ensure students are comfortable with technology and can engage with it responsibly.
Secondary School curriculum
Secondary school students follow the Cambridge curriculum from Grades 6 to 8 and for students in Grades 9 and 10, we offer the Cambridge IGCSE. This globally-renowned programme, which holds students to internationally recognised standards, aligns well with our multicultural environment. Further, it inspires students to ask questions and apply what they’re learning to a variety of situations.
Compulsory subjects include English (Language and Literature), Maths, Science, a foreign language and PE. Students also get to choose three subjects from a variety of options, including History, Geography, Computer Science, Economics, Business studies and many more. We follow the IGCSE curriculum at OWIS because it provides excellent preparation for the IB DP.
The IB DP is for students in Grades 11 and 12. What sets the IB Diploma Programme apart from other upper-secondary curricula is that it goes beyond rote learning to promote independent learning, inquiry and collaboration.
The IB DP supports personal growth and respect for different cultures and viewpoints too. Students who follow this framework frequently gain admission to some of the world’s most prestigious universities and acquire the skills to thrive in all areas of life.
Pastoral Care
To help students navigate the difficulties of the teen years, we provide a pastoral care programme for secondary school students. Each morning, small groups meet with our teachers for mentoring and other activities so that they can start the day with a healthy mindset.
During this “tutor time”, we provide Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE). We also emphasise the key character traits that we call our “secondary six” values:
- Kindness towards everyone
- Respect for themselves, others and the environment
- Positivity — for good character, happiness and well-being
- Responsibility — taking responsibility for their learning
- Integrity — acting ethically and honestly
- Relationships — building positive connections with peers and teachers
Rather than posting school rules, we develop “behaviour agreements” with our students, so they know what is expected when they are on campus or attending school-sponsored events.
Two Campuses in Singapore
OWIS has two locations in Singapore. Our Mountbatten campus caters to early learners (aged 3 to 6). We offer a nurturing, play-based environment that encourages exploration and inquiry.
Our Nanyang campus in Jurong West serves students from early childhood through Grade 12. We have separate blocks for early childhood, primary school and secondary school, and our classrooms are equipped with the latest technology. This campus’s key features include indoor and outdoor sports facilities, an expansive library, dedicated spaces for drama and art, and cutting-edge science labs for our secondary school students.
Our dynamic school culture, innovative curricula and experienced teachers make OWIS a great place to study. We encourage our students to be inquisitive, compassionate, reflective leaders who respect themselves and others. Our student-centred approach empowers them to become responsible, globally-minded adults ready to face the changes and challenges of the future.
