The exam period is heating up!
Be it A or O levels, students are scrambling to hone their craft and doing their last-minute revisions.
As a tutor, having a steady supply of assignments is your main concern at this point.
You check your assignments tab in the SmileTutor App and gaze at the never-ending supply of assignments.
How long will this dream last? When will the next boom period be again?
Fret not! Today, we are here to help you find the best periods to look out for throughout the year.
School Holidays

As expected, students will have more free time during their holidays.
Most parents will then take this opportunity to search for a tutor for their children, despite their groans and whines.
The busiest holiday periods would be the June holidays (1 month), the September holidays (1 week before exams begin) and the End of Year holidays (1.5 months before the start of the next school year).
One thing to note is that schools are starting to have more holiday programmes for their students as of recent years.
While this might not severely affect the supply of tutoring jobs, you might want to keep that in mind when planning your schedule with your tutee.
Exam Periods

On the other hand, we have exam periods.
Students dread it, run from it, but it arrives all the same.
Every year when exams are approaching, we see a sharp increase in requests for short term tutors.
Parents would be more willing to foot a higher cost in exchange for a good grade for their child.
Tutors such as yourself will definitely jump at such an opportunity, a goldmine if you will.
We realise that short term tutoring jobs usually boom around mid-September to end-September for A Level students, and early September for O Level students.
For polytechnics and universities, high traffic is usually observed towards the end of each term and semester, which includes early-August and mid-January.
Cooldown Periods

There will always be times where tutoring jobs are far and few between, either due to school just starting or festivities.
These periods include the Chinese New Year holidays and the last few weeks of December.
You can take this opportunity to have a break and relax from the burdens of work and the never-ending tuition schedules.
Tutors are humans too!
Conclusion
As with any statistic, we cannot guarantee that there will always be high demands for tutors in the periods we listed.
However, according to past trends, there is always a very strong chance that demand will be high especially before exam period and during holidays.
I hope that you can use this information to better plan your schedules and be prepared for assignments coming your way!
