Top 5 Private Schools in Singapore

Update: We’ve updated this list for 2019 and made it into a top 10 comprehensive list of international private schools. Find the new improved article here.

Even though Singapore’s Public Schools are famous for their world class education and competitiveness, there is also a thriving Private education system in the country.

This is because it is difficult for foreigners and expats to get their children enrolled in Public Schools. Waiting lists are long and priorities are naturally given to Singaporean nationals and permanent residents.

Private schools are regulated under the Private Education Act and need to be registered with the Committee for Private Education (CPE) which ensures that all regulations are followed and a high education standard is maintained.

The number of Private schools has grown considerably over the year and many of them provide the very highest quality of education in a competitive environment.

We have compiled a list of the top 5 Private Schools in Singapore based on their performance, history and reputation. The list, in no particular order, includes:

The school is completely self-supported and is a branch of the Seventh-day Adventist education system.
The school requires every child to attend Chapel and bible is taught to all students except for Muslims.

The school is inspected by the British Schools Overseas (BSO) framework, recognized by the Ofsted. The school caters to the expat community as approx. 65% of students are British passport holders.

Each building has its own health centre with professional nurses on stand-by. Apart from all these, the school has tennis courts, running tacks, playing fields, a swimming pool, fitness centre, outdoor chess corner, two cafes and a bakery shop.

The school simply stands out as one of the best educational institutes in the country.

5. Avondale Grammar School

Avondale Grammar School is also targeted towards the expat community with children from over 20 nationalities studying together in world class educational facilities. The school follows Australian Curriculum and is licensed by the Board of Studies, Teaching and Educational Standards of the NSW Government.

One of the key features of the Avondale, which sets it apart from others, is that the school recognises how each child is different in learning patterns and development and so each student’s progress is separately captured and documented under the school’s Personal Achievements Targets plans.
This makes the educational experience far more personalised and tailored where teachers ensure that each and every child gets performs the best to their abilities.

While this is a general list of the top private schools in Singapore, there are also many other private, public and international schools which perform very well and have great reputations.
However, regardless of the school and the education these children receive, even students from the best schools take up after-school tuition in Singapore, simply because there is so some competition to out-perform peers.
