Applying for a private tutor may seem like a tedious and long process. Scheduling timings, fees and selecting the right tutor are all part and parcel of the process.

Here at SmileTutor, we take these from your hands and ensure that you can receive your tutors hassle-free!

Here is a simple breakdown of the whole process, all the way from receiving your application to handling the relevant payments:

Stage 1: Receiving your request

After you have submitted a tutor request form, or sent us an enquiry via WhatsApp, our prospecting team will contact you within 2-6 hours.

During the initial call, apart from verifying your information, we’ll provide advice based on years of industry-knowledge to tailor your tutor search according to your needs.

For example, we’ll be able to provide accurate tuition rates data to match your budget to a suitably experienced tutor.

Once all the details have been finalized, we will proceed to post your request source for a suitable tutor!

(Don’t worry, sensitive info such as your unit number would not be posted, and would only be sent to your selected tutor in Stage 3)

Stage 2: Sourcing for tutors

We have a vast supply of experienced tutors in our database, we just need to select the one that fits your request!

We have 3 categories of tutors:

1. Part time – Tutors who are doing it part-time. Most part time tutors are still schooling students. There are also University graduates and working adults who offer tuition as a side hustle. Part time tutors are the cheapest option for private tuition.
2. Full time – Tutors who teach as a profession. They may or may not be university graduates, but they have significantly more teaching experience compared to part time tutors. Their rates vary depending on each individual and circumstance. 
3. School teachers: Tutors who are ex/current schoolteachers from either MOE or private/international schools. These tutors tend to be the most experienced and qualified in private tutoring and thus command premium rates.

Our tutors would usually apply for your request through our website or app. 

Rest assured that SmileTutor’s proprietary Quality Score™ system will ensure that we only match qualified tutors to you.

We will select a few profiles of tutors that we deem suitable for you, and we would recommend them to you via Whatsapp.

You can then decide on which tutor profile you prefer, and once you get back to us on your preferred tutor.

Stage 3: The Matching Process

The most important thing to us is matching you with the right home tutor!

After seeing the profile, you may ask us any questions you have about the tutor. You can even request to vet their certificates, ask the tutor any questions, or even request to speak with the tutor via conference call!

If you are uncomfortable with any details regarding the newly assigned tutor, you can always request for a different tutor. 

Our Coordinators will ensure that both parties agree on the lesson details and pricing before confirming the lessons.

Once you have confirmed a suitable tutor, we’ll send you the lesson details via a confirmation email and you can start preparing for your first lesson!

Stage 4: Preparing for the first lesson

While waiting for the first lesson, SmileTutor Home Tuition Agency will be available to help you and the tutor to get ready for the first lesson.

Let us know what topic you’d like to start with, and any materials that you’d like the tutor to start with.

If needed, we will provide the contact info of the tutor to you on the first day of tuition or the night before.

On the day of the first lesson, a reminder WhatsApp would be sent to you and the tutor, so you won’t miss out or forget!

If after the first lesson you decide not to continue with this tutor and would like to change tutors, feel free to contact us. You’ll only need to pay for lessons conducted, nothing more!

After the first lesson, you may start liaising with the tutor for future lesson arrangements as well!

Stage 5: Payment of Agency Fees

Here at SmileTutor, we do not implement an agency fee. Yes, you heard that right! 

For long term assignments (7 weeks or more), payment for the first 2 lessons are to be made to us, and subsequent payments can be made directly to the tutor. 

For short term assignments (Less than 7 weeks), you will only have to transfer 25% of the fees for all lessons to us, and the remaining 75% to the tutor. 

The calculations of the fees may look like quantum physics, but not to worry, we will do all the sums for you!
